Low Dye Tapings are an effective method for treating plantar fasciitis and reducing the pain. Their exact mechanism for working is somewhat disputed. Some think it gives greater support to the planter fascia, while others think it helps control some of the rearfoot movement. Whatever its mechanism we can agree that patients have a great deal reduction in pain after having it applied. However, if you use a cheap tape it will not be effective in treating plantar fasciitis. An effective Low Dye taping requires a tape with a high tensile strength, with limited elasticity. In other words do not use Powerflex tape. It is too flexible, which will destory the integrity of the low dye taping.
For a good effective Low Dye Taping I think you have to use Sport Kineasology Tape- I know what you are thinking but my patients are not athletes. Yes, but they ambulate. Everybody walks. That is what aggravates Plantar Fasciitis. You need a strong tape to help support the Plantar Fascia as well as control the rearfoot movement.
