How to keep your Bunion Surgery from getting wet.

Having bunion surgery is a big deal.  One of the rules including staying off of the foot, that your Podiatrist will give you is to keep your bunion surgical site dry.  There are many methods  to keep the bunion surgery site dry, whether you have a cast or dressing to protect the bunion surgery site.  Below I have listed a bunch of ideas on how to keep a bunion surgical site from getting wet.

The most common method used by patients I find is the plastic bag method.  What you do is put the surgical foot into a plastic bag and tie it off. This will protect the foot from getting wet.  The one drawback to this method is the bag is not secrue and can leak.

Second method, take baths and just leave your foot over the side.  This is simple and easiest to perform.

Third, you can purchase a myriad of products that are specifically created to keep extremities dry after surgery.  These are simple too purchase ahead of your surgery.  Talk to your surgeon prior to the surgery to see how long you will have to keep your foot dry.  For most surgeries it maybe as little as 14 days.
