How to get rid of a Bunion Surgery Scar

Bunion Surgery scars are less than ideal, but if you had surgery you are going to have a scar.  What if you do not like the scar?  Well, first off if you had bunion surgery and your biggest complaint is the scar, then you had a successful surgery.  Now there are steps your surgeon can take before surgery to reduce the scar.   If you are concerned about the scar tell your Podiatric surgeon before the surgery so he can take steps to reduce the scar.

But if you are reading this article, I am assuming you already had the surgery and now are upset about the scar.  Sometimes the scar will decrease in prominence over time, so doing nothing is an option.  One treatment you should definitly try is scar reduction creams or lotions. Most of these use vitamin E as their active ingredient.  The most popular and probably best on the market is Mederma:

Do not forget to massage the scar as this will help break up some of the scar tissue and adhesive material underneath the scar and reduce its prominence.  This can be done by just rubbing the scar and stretching it back and forth.

If your scar is elevated and painful you may want to consider ultrasound. It will help break up the scar tissue to lower the scar.  Here is machine that both massages and provides ultrasound.

Whatever you do, just know that dealing with a scar after surgery is really not that much of an issue.
