How do I treat blisters on the bottom of my foot?

Blisters are a common condition of the foot. They can be caused by poor fitting shoes, burns, trauma to the foot or athletes foot.  How to treat blisters is a commonly asked question on the bottom of the foot.  They can be painful, but they are so eminently treatable with little problems.  Traditionally, these blisters occur in runners after a long run. Generally this is a sign your running sneaker is not fitting properly.

When you first discover the blisters, do not panic.  In a way blisters are a good sign that your body’s defense and immune system is functioning properly. Ideally, do not lance the blisters. Let the blisters run their course, and try and walk as little as possible.  If you must walk a Horseshoe pad should be purchased to keep pressure off the blisters.  After the blisters have been derooffed, you can simply apply triple antibiotic ointment and a band aid to the area until they are healed completely.

If you must deroof your blisters because you  don’t have the time to have the blisters run its course, make sure you use sterile and clean instruments, and apply Triple Antibiotic Ointment immediately after deroofing the blisters.  If you are a healthy individual, these blisters should heal up with minimal problems.
