The short answer is yes cortisone shots do help plantar fasciitis. However, cortisone shots do not “cure” plantar fasciitis. The only treatments that can “cure” plantar fasciitis is regularly stretching the plantar fascia or orthotics. What a cortisone shot does is decrease the inflammation that is occuring at the insertion of the plantar fascia into the calcaneus. Decreasing the inflammation there will decrease the pain. Now, a warning: you should not have more than three cortisone shots for plantar fasciitis. If you have more than three this will lead to degradation of the fascia and atrophy, and make your problem far worse.
