Sprained Ankles can last awhile and do not magically heal on their own. Sometimes for severe ankle sprains a walking boot is neccesary. If you are reading this article I am going to assume that you have a sprained ankle and are unable to go to a medical provider for some reason. Because if you do have a sprained ankle that you feel is bad enough for CAM Walker or Walking Boot it is probably bad enough that you need to see a Podiatrist.
How does a walking boot help sprained ankles? Well it is simple. The walking boot works similar to a cast for a sprained ankle. It immobilizes the ankle allowing the ligaments to heal in the corrected position. This helps reduce the stress and strain on the ankle. Now when looking for a walking boot for ankle sprains you will have a lot to choose from. There are both short and long CAM Walkers that you can get. For an ankle Sprain you need a long one; the short ones should only be used for injuries to the foot not the ankle.
Best Walking Boots for Sprained Ankles
Some I recommend Air Cast Long Pneumotic walker– This is one I would use if you think you have a grade 4 sprain. In other words you cannot put any weight on it at all (which if that is the case you need to see a Podiatrist and get X-rays). This is the best boot you are going to find immobilizing the ankle. However the trade off is it is also the least comfortable.
CAM Walker Boot– This is my favorite and the most common dispensed for sprained ankles. This immobilizes the ankle but also does so in a more comfortable fasion and allows your ankle to areate as well.
