They make specific softball cleats for pitchers but not for infielders. Why is that? It is because softball pitchers place a great deal of stress on the big toe area during pitching so that area will wear down quickly. What makes a softball cleat effective for infielders? In my opinion you want a cleat that provides good traction that will allow quick pivot movements. But you also want the cleat to be lightweight in order to not hamper your running. I did this list for if you are a shortstop, third baseman, second baseman or first baseman. I tried to list a variety of softball cleats availble at a variety of prices for every budget. Below are what I believe are the best softball cleats for infielders:
Under Armour UA Glyde RM Softball Cleats– These cleats offer rubber molded cleats with wonderful traction. Just look at the length on those cleats. But the reason I put these cleats here is the rotational traction configuration which allow maximum accelration and power. In other words, you will be able to pivot quickly.
New Balance WF7535– This cleat is mainly here because it is New Balance. I place this here because if comfort is your number one issue with softball cleats, and you find yourself going through many pairs, consider this cleat as it will provide you comfort as well as support. This cleat also has a softball specific TPU outsole for traction specifically created for a softball player.
Mizuno 9 Spike Sweep Softball Cleat– If you pitch occasionally, and want a cleat that can perform double duty, this maybe the cleat for you, as this cleat features a reinforced toe region. This cleat, as with all the cleats listed, was specifically designed for softball running and throwing.
