Sandals will not cure your knee pain. There is no sandal that is magical enough that will eliminate knee arthritis or a torn meniscus. However, sandals can help reduce pain and discomfort. What do you look for in sandals that can reduce knee pain? The number one trait you look for in a sandal that will reduce knee pain is padding to reduce stress and strain on your knees. Another trait that is helpful is for the sandal to have a rocker bottom as this will reduce stress and strain on the knee and aid the foot and knee in propulsion. Below I have listed what I believe to be the best sandals for knee pain:
Vionic Orthaheel Sandal– This sandal functions as an orthotic that will help relieve stress and strain on the knee if you believe your knee pain is from a biomechanical issue in your foot. It also features an EVA footbed to absorb stress and strain that you maybe having. If you believe your knee problem is do to issues with the biomechanics of your foot this is an ideal sandal to purchase.
Dr. Weil Sonora T Strap Sandal– This sandal has an orthotic footbed as well, similar to the Vionic above. It also features a cork footbed to help absorb shock as well as the design of a mild rocker bottom sandal.
MBT Kisimu or Jawabu– These are the sandals I mostly recommend for knee pain, especially knee pain associated with arthritis. Note how the whole sandal has a rockerbottom feel to it as well as providing a great deal of cushioning. Either of these sandals are effective, and both would make a strong choice to treat knee pain.
