Finding the correct insole or orthotic for Diabetic can be a difficult process. What do you look for in an orthotic or insole as a Diabetic? Ideally you want an insole that can reduce pressure for a Diabetic on their foot. Every foot has high pressure areas, and you want your orthotic or insole to reduce the amount of pressure your foot in those high pressure areas. One option is to see a Podiatrist and they can make an orthotic specifically designed for your foot. However these can cost as much as 600 dollars (they are covered by insurance in some cases). But if orthotics are not covered by insurance or you do not want to go to the doctor, there are some over the counter orthotics that can be purchased that can help reduce the pressure Diabetics feel in high stressed areas. Below I have listed some of the best Orthotics or Insoles for Diabetics:
Arch Crafters Custom Fit Diabetic Insoles for Men/Women– These orthotics utilize plastazote and EVA technology to help provide an orthotic specifally formulated for your foot. This process and orthotic is the closest you will find to a custom orthotic that Podiatrists can create for you. However, they cost over $100 and are not recommended for people with flat feet.
Anti Shox Conform Insoles– If you are looking for an orthotic on the other end of the spectrum, these affordible orthotics do wonders with shock absorbtion. They provide the neccesary padding, and are very inexpensive. The downside is they provide very little biomechanical support and are not made of the best material to hold up for a long period of time.
Lynco 220– These orthotics feature the best of both worlds. Again these insoles are considered Diabetic orthotics. These orthotics are made of plastazote, similar to the Arch Crafters above. They will conform to your foot while giving you a great deal of shock absorption as well.
New Balance Pressure Relief Orthotics– These are my favorite orthotics for people with Diabetes. They are very affordible while being manufactured utilizing Plastazone. This orthotic will mold to the contour of your foot, taking pressure off high stressed areas.
