Best Orthotics for Overpronation

Overpronation is a common problem that occurs with runners.  This can lead to a great deal of discomfort.  There are many treatments for overpronation.  The treatment most commonly used is orthotics.  But what orthotics?

Well, the best orthotics are orthotics made by a Podiatrist specifically for your foot called Custom orthotics.  You go to a Podiatrist who takes a cast or impression of your foot and sends it to the orthotic lab which then makes an orthotic specifically for your foot.  These orthotics can run upwards of $600.

Now, if custom orthotics are not the way you want to go,  over the counter orthotics can be purchased to treat overpronation.  What would you look for in an orthotic to deal with overpronation?  You want an orthotic with a deep seated heel cup, a firm arch and a medial post on the heel.  Below I have selected some examples of orthotics for overpronators:

Powerstep Pinnacle Maxx Orthotic Supports– Just looking at this orthotic you can see the deep stabilizing heel cup.  The orthotic also features a firm arch to help with arch support.

Orthaheel Unisex Relief–  Do not be dissuaded from this orthotic that does not extend for the whole foot.  Pronation generally occurs in the rearfoot.  This orthotic you can see has a deep stabilizing heel cup. In my opinion it may be too deep to the point of uncomfortable.  But, it is defintly an orthotic you want to an investigate if you suffer from overpronation.

Lynco Conform Orthotic Posted Heel– Remember what I said about a posted heel. This orthotic is one of the few over the counter orthotics that has one.  The medial posting of the heel combined with the deep heel cup make this the best orthotic for dealing with overpronation on the market.
