Finding orthotics when you are obese or over weight can be difficult. If you are obese or overweight you are at higher risk of having foot injuries or problems. So finding the correct orthotic or insole to wear can be key. There are multiple things to look for in an orthotic for an obese person. You want the orthotic to provide comfort and help control stress and strain on the foot. At the same time you want the orthotic to be durable as obese people tend to put more stress on the orthotic. The third thing you want is an orthotic that is sturdy enough to give your foot support due to the increased stress. You have a couple options for this orthotic. One is to see a Podiatrist and have them make a specific orthotic for your foot. These can run about $400-$600 and are occasionally covered by insurance. However, there are more inexpensive methods and orthotics that may help your issue. Below I have listed what I believe are the best orthotics for obese or overweight people.
Spenco Rx Orthotics– If you are looking for an orthotic to simply comfort your foot and provide a decrease in stress, Spenco may be the orthotic for you. They have a patent technology that helps absorb stress from the ground. Also, these orthotics are some of most inexpensive you will find. The one drawback is they do not offer as much support as other orthotics on the market.
New Balance Pressure Relief Insole– This is similar to Spenco as this will provide a great deal of pressure reduction in your foot. I mean just read the name. It also has the name New Balance behind it. They tend to be more expensive than the Spenco orthotics, and its hard to say they are superior.
PowerStep Orthotics– This is my favorite orthotic for people who are overweight or obese. This orthotic features an EVA top cover to provide comfort and stress reduction. This orthotic also features a shell to help provide support. As orthotics go, I believe this orthotic provides the best of both worlds
