Mortons Neuromas is an inflammation of the nerve in between the second and third toe which swells up and causes pain. There are multiple possible neuroma causes for this, some biomechanical and some structural. There are many treatments for Neuromas: Injections, surgery or pads. One treatment for Mortons Neuromas that is very popular with patients is orthotics. The idea behind on an orthotic is to control pronation that maybe contributing to the Neuroma, as well as take pressure off the location of the Neuroma.
I believe the primary goal of an orthotic in neuroma treatment should be to take pressure off the Neuroma region. The key to this treatment is to choose an orthotic that has a metatarsal pad. That is the one requirement an orthotic for Morton’s Neuromas should have a metatarsal pad. This will help off load the area of the foot that is in pain, thus reducing pressure on the neuroma. Below I have posted some examples of the orthotics I am talking about, all are reasonably priced. For a Mortons Neuroma its really not work getting $400 custom orthotics made, unless you have tried over the counter orthotics and other treatments listed above. Below choose the orthotic that you think you will tolerate the best. All the orthotics below have a metatarsal pad.
