Best Orthotics for Children’s Bunions

When your child has a bunion  you want to do everything to help reduce it or reduce its growth.  Well, to be honest there is no guranteed treatment that will reduce your child’s bunion. The theory behind an orthotic slowing down the formation of your child’s bunion is there are biomechanical parameters that can cause the formation of a bunion.  What you look for in an orthotic to help reduce or alleviate a child’s bunion is an orthotic with a deep heel cup that will give greater control and correction over faulty biomechanics.  Orthotics are are like glasses. Glasses do not correct your child’s vision. They aid the vision by bringing the eye sight into focus.  Consider orthotics as glasses that bring faulty biomechanics into focus.  Below I have listed what I believe are the best orthotics for children with bunions.

Footminders Kids orthotics–  Now take a look at this orthotic. Remember what I said about a deep heel cup; this orthotic does have a deep heelp cup for greater biomechanical control.  Additionally, this orthotic provides solid and stable arch support.  Now, the downer with this orthotic is that is not the most comfortable orthotic.  And suffice it to say, if your child does not wear the orthotic the orthotic will not have a chance to work to reduce the bunion and help alleviate the pain.

Pedag 122 Joy Length Orthotic– Now this orthotic is far more comfortable than the Footminders listed above. It also has a somewhat deep heel cup, for some biomechanical control, but not as strong as Footminders.  Also, the arch support is mild, which is part of what makes it comfortable.  If you have a picky child this may be the orthotic to get.

Kids Children EVA orthotics–  This orthotic is probably the best of both worlds. It provides good biomechanical control and is also very comfortable.  So if you are looking for an orthotic that will provide both support and comfort consider this orthotic.  I just think EVA is the best material for a child’s orthotic. EVA is a material that will mold and conform to your arch.  This will help the orthotic individualize to your foot.
