These custom orthotics can cost anywhere between $200-$600. Occasionally these orthotics are covered by insurance. If your custom orthotics are covered by insurance that is the way to go. If not you can still pay the Podiatrist for the orthotics out of Pocket.
If you do not want to go that route and want to purchase an orthotic over the counter there are a couple brands I recommend for orthotics for back pain.
These Neoprene orthotics offered by Spenco can be highly effective for back pain. These can be molded to your foot for custom fit as well as having the added comfort provided by a Neoprene cushion. These only retail for $24 at Amazon, and are an effective inexpensive orthotic.
Power Step Orthotic Pinnacle, These orthotics only retail for $32, and in my opinion do the best job of combining cushioning and function that you expect out of an orthotic. The cushioning is key because that will help reduce that is stressed on the back during walking.
Orthaheel is a nice orthotic as well. These orthotics feature a deep heel cup, so if you believe one of the causes of your back pain is flat feet or over pronation this maybe the orthotic for you. What the deep heel cup does is help stabilize the rearfoot, thus reducting the torque and torsion the back may experience during heel strike.
