Hallux Limitus or Rigidus is a painful condition of the big toe joint, which causes limited and painful motion in the joint. There are a multitude of treatments for this including Orthotics and shoes.
Now before I go on, I think shoes, inserts and surgery are all superior to any of these braces in the treatment of Hallux Rigidus. The reason is you need something that will restrict the motion of the big toe (which decreases the pain), while at the same time helping your foot biomechanically propulse off the big toe. I would not recommend wearing these braces with orthotics but they can be worn in rocker bottom shoes. So without further ado:
Best Hallux Rigidus or Limitus Braces or Splints:
Bauerfeind Valguloc Bunion Splint– This bunion splint is hard but does a great job at restricting motion of the big toe joint. This stabilizes the joint thus reducing pain with range of motion of the big toe joint.
Bort Valco Bunion Regulator– This splint works on the same parameters as the splint mentioned above with the same positive and negatives. It is a little bit cheaper and not as bulky as well.
Neo G Medical Brace- If you are looking for a less bulky more comfortable brace this is the one to choose. However, you will lose some of the restriction and stability in motion that the other two braces offer.
Dr, Rogo Crooked Toe Corrector– Do not let the name fool you. This brace will soothe your foot while you walk. One of the aspects this brace performs is, by providing consistent pressure to the big toe area, it helps reduce the swelling and also protects the toe from unwanted movement as well as force placed on the toe. It is also very inexpensive:
