Best Cycling Shoes for Bunion Sufferers

Cycling shoes are naturally tight shoes that are not ideal for deformities such as a bunion.  However, there are some cycling shoes that are more effective for bunions than others.  What you want in a cycling shoe for bunions is a shoe that has a wide and large toe box which is where the bunion will rest while it is being worn.  You also want a wide shoe because the bunion makes your foot wider.  The third trait to look for is a material that will stretch to the contour of your foot and not place pressure on the foot.  Below I have listed what I believe are the best cycling shoes for cyclists with bunions:

Shimano SH-RP1–  This shoe features a wide stable outsole. Additionally it has an insole that can accommodate many foot shapes.  And most importantly it has a wide enough toe box to comfortably fit a bunion.

Shimano SH-MT301 Biking Shoes–  Here again you have a flexible insole to accomodate most any foot shape.  But additionally, take a good look at the toe box. See how wide and what depth it has.  This is what you are looking for in a cycling shoe that can accomodate a bunion deformity.

Louis Garneau Multi-Lite–  Here you have an example of a shoe with a wide toe box but it has the advantage of being created from synthetic leather which will contour to the shape of your foot and help off load some of the pressure off your bunion.

Giro Petra–  While the toe box is not ideal, you have a soft fabric lining that will give your bunion a comfortable in shoe feel.  Remember, the material in a lot of cycling shoes will contour to your foot and thus keep pressure off the bunion.
