What do you look for in second baseman and shorstop cleats? Well, you want cleats that are light. Second base and shorstop require the player to be quick on their feet and react quickly to balls hit. This is aided by having a lightweight cleat. Additionally, you want baseball cleats that are secure enough for you to be able to pivot off and plant your feet. We are not worried about toe reinforcement which is neccesary in pitchers and catchers cleats, so I would avoid those cleats at all costs. Below I have listed what I believe are the best baseball cleats for shortstops and second baseman.
Under Armour Leadoff Low RM Cleats– These cleats have been engineered with a focus on rotational stability. These focus on the ability to accelerate in and out of cuts. They are low cut, which is always ideal for shorstops and second baseman. They are fairly lightweight (there are lighter cleats).
Mizuno 9 Spike Franchise 7 Low Cleat– This cleat has nine cleats which tends to be more cleats than others on the market. This leads to more secure traction and planting. Now a potential drawback to these cleats is they may provide too much traction, but that is mitigated by their use of rubber cleats. Additionally, this is really lightweight cleat.
Adidas Performance 5 tool 2.0 Baseball shoe– This cleat is the lightests baseball cleat on the market. If one of the big aspects of your game is speed, I highy recommend this cleat. Additionally it comes with metal cleats to improve traction and provide rotational stability.
