Barefoot running or minimalist running is the latest running craze. The theory being that having a natural flow to your foot will reduce running injuries. I disagree with this assesment and recommend regular running shoes. But, if you want to give minimalist running a try, go for it. A lot of barefoot runners have bunions and want to know what barefoot running or minimalist shoes you can purchase if you have a bunion. What you want to look for in a minimialist or barefoot running shoe is a shoe that will fit a bunion comfortably. Bunions get aggravated by shoes rubbing against the bunion. The key to having a proper fiitting shoe is to have a shoe that will not create friction over the bunion.
Here are what I consider the best barefoot running or minimalist shoes for bunion sufferers:
New Balance MX20v7 Minimus Cross-Training Shoe– This shoe, like all of New Balance sneakers, fits to width, so if you have an exceedingly wide foot or a severe bunion, they can fit the shoe to accommodate you.
New Balance 10v4 Minimus Running Shoe– This shoe fits to width but it also features a wide toe box, which is something that will help fit a bunion comfortably. This shoe also features a padded tongue and collar, as well as foam cushioning which will take stress and strain off the bunion
Merrell Barefoot Pace Glove Running Shoe– This shoe is the best for a bunion deformity, in my opinion. It has a padded EVA foot bed which will mold to the contour of your foot. In addition, it has material which will stretch to fit your bunion comfortably.
