When you are an outside hitter, your position requires different skills and actions than a setter. So it is only natural that some Volleyball Shoes would be better for outside hitters than for setters. Being an outside hitter the number one requirement is jumping. You need a shoe that will give you a good bounce back that is neccesary for repeated jumps. Also, an outside requires good traction and the ability to cut on a dime as well as padding to help reduce the shock and stress on your foot from repeated jumps.
Mizuno Wave Tornado 8– This shoe is ideal for outside hitters. It features an enhanced AP midsole which helps with rebound as well as cushioning. Rebound is when you perform multiple jumps in a short period of time. Some shoes can almost give you a spring effect. Also this shoe features shock absorbing padding in the forefoot to help reduce the stress placed on the forefoot.
ASICS Gel Volley Cross Revolution– As far as ASICS go I feel an outside hitter cannot go wrong with most of their Volleyball Shoes. Their gel cushioning is just perfect for a Volleyball Shoe. The Gel gives you significant shock absorbtion as well as bounce back capabilities. This shoe is unique in that it is lighter weight than most of the ASICS shoes. And obviously a lighter shoe will make it easier for you to jump higher.
ASICS Gel Rocket 7– A little more inexpensive than the shoes above, the Gel Rocket provides almost all those traits for half the cost. It does lack a little in the bounce back capabilities. But this shoe also checks in at a lower weight than most Volleyball shoes and also has the Gel system that I raved about earlier.
