Sever’s disease is an inflammation of the growth plate in the heel, common in 10-15 year olds. This is caused by repeated trauma that can be brought on from a sport like baseball. The key to treating Sever’s disease is to reduce the amount of stress and pressure placed on the heel. The stress applies pressure to the Calcaneus growth plate which causes irritation and inflammation in the heel and produces the pain the child feels. Below I have listed what I believe to be the best baseball cleats for a player with Sever’s disease:
Easton Kids Speed Elite Baseball Cleats- This cleat features a heel stabilizer with an EVA wedge. This will reduce excessive motion that irritates the Calcaneal growth plate causing the pain. Essentially, it helps reduce unnecessary motion in the heel.
New Balance Kid’s 4040v4 Baseball Shoe- New Balance simply makes good baseball cleats. The cleats provide a great deal of padding, as well as stabilization. Also the molded cleat configuration will help take stress off the heel.
Under Armour Kids UA Leadoff Low Jr Baseball Cleat– This cleat is ideal due to its full length armour bound midsole cushions. These cushions help spread some of the stress over the entire foot so it is not just located on the heel.
