So you injured your foot and ankle but do not know if it is broken. You know the only way to tell for sure is an X-Ray but you do not want to spend $300 on an X Ray. How much do they cost? That is a loaded question. The X-Rays themselves depending on the practice you go to will cost between $80-$240. Some will charge extra $50 or so for reading the X-Ray.
Where they really get you is they combine this with the office visit, which will generally cost between $80 and $240. So you can see how this can all add up to $300 in a hurry. Is there a way to get it cheaper? The answer is yes. What you want to do is call a Podiatrist, an inpendant Podiatrist. Do not go to multi speciality groups or urgent cares. Those places will have regulations of what has to be charged when you walk in. Those people most likely you will not be able to negotiatie with.
Call independent Podiatrists, and basically ask how much will it cost to get X-rays at your office and have the doctor read them. Then when they say the number if its $300 counter and say you will give $150 at the time of the service. Doctors love cash up front and most will give a discount to you, if you pay in advance. Do not be afraid to call a couple of different Podiatrists, and find the most inexpensive one. You should be able to get the cost down to about $100 to $150.
