A lot of people in this country have uneven lengths on their legs, and most people go their entire life with unequal in length legs without any problems. But, for some people having one leg longer than the other can cause problems, such as back pain or foot pain. The question is, is there anyway to tell if one leg is longer than the other. The answer is yes, there is. The best and easiest way to do this is to go see someone that knows what they are doing, such as a Podiatrist. The Podiatrist can measure your legs (the method uses anatomical landmarks, which you really have to go to medical school to understand). The doctor can then diagnose which of your legs is longer than the other. Is there anyway to tell, without going to the doctor, if one of your legs is longer than the other?
The answer, there are ways to tell, but nothing is as definitive as measuring. But, if your feet are different sizes this most likely means your legs are different sizes. The bigger foot would correspond to the bigger leg. If one of your feet appears flatter than the other with less arch and has greater callous formation on the bottom, that most likely indicates that is the shorter of the two legs. Now if you are convinced that you have a limb length problem and that is the source of your foot or back pain, there is an easy way to test your hypothesis. Place a heel lift in the shoe of the shorter leg. If your symptoms disapear, then you have successfully diagnosed and treated your limb length discrepancy. Here are some heel lifts you can use to test your hypothesis. I suggest the adjustable heel lift if you are trying to establish if you have a limb length problem as you will be able to adjust the heel lift affordingly.
