Best Orthotics or Insoles for Peroneal Tendonitis

Peroneal subluxation and tendonitis is a condition that generally effects athletes. There are many treatments for it ranging from bracing to surgery.  One treatment that can have some success in the treating of peroneal tendonitis is orthotics or insoles.  Now the best orthotic or insole for Peroneal Tendonitis is custom orthotics made by a Podiatrist.  These orthotics however can run as high as $600, though some are covered by insurance.  You should check with your insurance carrier if they are covered.  If custom orthotics are covered that is probably the way to go.  If not, and you do not have the money or the desire, there are more inexpensive over the counter orthotics that can be purchased for Peroneal tendonitis.

What does one look for in an orthotic for Peroneal Tendonitis?  Generally, you want a semi rigid orthotic with a deep heel cup.  The deep heel cup will provide biomechanical control to help reduce the motion causing the peroneal tendonitis.  Below I have listed what I believe to be the best over the counter orthotics for peroneal tendonitis or subluxation:

Arch Crafters Orthotics–  These orthotics are more expensive than the other orthotics I have listed, however they are the only ones that are made custom to your foot similar to what a Podiatrist would do.  What happens is they send you a foam box, you step in that foam box giving them a 3-D image of your foot and then send it to the orthotic lab, where a custom orthotic is produced.  This is as close to a custom orthotic as you will find on the internet, although the price is fairly high:

PowerStep Orthotics–  If you are an athlete you may want to take a long look at Power Step orthotics. These orthotics feature a deep heel cup, ploypropylene shell and a poron top cover.  These are one of the better over the counter orthotics on the market and can be effective in treating peroneal tendonitis:

Freedom Accomodator semi rigid PRO–  This is fairly new orthotic on the market, and was manufactured with peroneal tendonitis in mind (not exclusively), but was created with the inventors thinking about treating peroneal tendonitis.  This orthotic as well is a semi rigid orthotic with a top cover to absorb stress and a deep heel cup. This orthotic  can be effective in treating peroneal tendonitis.
