What are the best orthotics for cheerleaders? It depends on the specific problem the cheerleader is experiencing as certain problems tend to improve with certain orthotics. Below I have listed what I believe to be the best orthotics for cheerleaders. Now before I go further, understand the best orthotic is a custom made orthotic produced by a podiatrist specifically made for the cheerleader’s foot. These custom orthotics however, can be expensive running as high as $500 to $650. Occasionally they are covered by medical insurance, so check with your insurance and see if you qualify.
But, if custom orthotics are not an option because of price you might want to try a more inexpensive orthotic before splurging for custom orthotics. I have listed some less expensive over the counter orthotics for cheerleaders below. I looked for orthotics that are durable and provide a great deal of padding.
Lynco Sports orthotics– The nice thing about Lynco as a company is that they create orthotics for different foot types. For example, they have an orthotic for flat feet and separate one for high arches. I am not a huge fan of Lynco as I do not believe they provide a great deal of padding to dissipate stress. But they are option since they are sports specific orthotics.
Sof Sol Air Performance Orthotics– If your cheerleader is suffering stress fractures or knee pain or back pain, this is the ideal orthotic for you. This orthotic has air cushions located within the orthotic to help decrease stress and strain on the foot. This orthotic would also be ideal for people with high arches. I would avoid if you have flat feet since the arch support is not there. It is the perfect orthotic if your child is suffering from Severs disease, however
Superfeet Black or Green Premium Insoles– Superfeet like Lynco creates specific orthotics for specific foot types. However, these orthotics are more inexpensive and I feel superior. They provide arch support and cushioning in the correct balance making it ideal for the cheerleader with flat feet or arch issues, or if the cheerleader has biomechanical issues.
