Osgood Schlatters is a painful condition signified by pain in the knee region that corresponds to activity. The condition predominantly effects children between the ages of 10-15 in sports that require a lot of jumping and starting such as basketball, soccer, hockey or football. The condition is caused by an inflammation in the growth plate of the Tibia. There are many treatments for Osgood Schlatters such as rest, ice, stretching, and pads. One treatment that can help a child with Osgood Schlatters is orthotics or insoles for the shoes. The idea behind these orthotics is that the orthotics can reduce the force and stress on the growth plate, thus reducing the pain. Below I have listed what I believe to be the best orthotics or insoles for children with Osgood Schlatters disease.
Powerstep Powerkids Pediatric Orthotic supports– These are my favorite orthotics or insoles that can be used for Osgood Schlatters. These orthotics feature a poron cover layer to absorb forces and keep stress off the knee.
. Spenco Kids Polysorb-These are the orthotics that I would try first for Osgood Schlatters, as they are inexpensive and provide a great deal of comfort and shock absorption. They do this by utilizing a polyurethane base to absorb shock.
