Best Orthotics for Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease

Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease is a painful condition of the foot and ankle.  This condition causes high and generalized weakness over their lower extremity.  There are many treatments including braces, and custom made shoes or orthotics.  For  a myriad of reasons those treatments are not an option for some people.

One treatment that is easy to do on your own is to buy a pair of orthotics or insoles to help with the pain.  What you are looking for in an orthotic for people with CMT, is an orthotic that provides padding in high stress areas caused by your condition.  Those high stress areas are your heel and your forefoot specifically the metatarsal region.  Essentially what you are looking for is an orthotic specifically made for people with high arches.

Below I have listed what I believe are the best orthotics or insoles for people with Charcot Marie Tooth disease or CMT:

RxSorbo Sorbothane Ultra Orthotic High Arch Insole–  This orthotic uses Sorbothane rubber to attempt to recreate the padding in the heel area of the foot.  The Sorbothane is concentrated in the heel and in the ball of the foot region, where the stress on the foot is caused in CMT.

Pedag Viva High Semi Rigid Support for High Arches and Metatarsal pad–  Well the name says it all.  This orthotic places its excess padding in the heel and metatarsal area. (I would like to be more creative in requirements but those really are the two biggest criteria)

Aetrex Custom Select Series for High Arches–  This is probably my favorite orthotic for high arches.  This orthotic, unlike the other two, has both the padding but also features a deep heel cup.  The deep heel cup is important since it will help with the weakness in your foot, and help bring your gait back into balance.  Again, the padding is located in the heel and the metatarsal area.  I believe all three of these orthotics will help CMT but I like this one the best mainly because of the deep heel cup.
